Five Mobile Racers That Actually Feel Fast

Speed on a phone is tricky. Without a wheel or pedals, a racer lives and dies by how its touch controls feel, and most of them get it wrong. The good ones make you forget you're just tilting a slab of glass.

Our current favorite is Turbo District, mostly for its drifting. The car slides in a way that feels earned, and learning a track genuinely drops your lap times. That loop of improvement is what keeps racers alive.

We also tested a handful of tilt-only games. Tilt can work, but only if the sensitivity is right — too twitchy and you're fighting the phone, too loose and corners turn to mush. Always check the settings before you write a game off.

Our advice: turn off assists once you're comfortable. Most mobile racers hide their real handling behind training wheels, and the game underneath is usually far more satisfying.

None of these will replace a console racer, but for a bus ride they punch well above their weight.
